In a test of the honesty of twenty auto repair stations in San Diego, a union reporter faked a problem and tested whether shops would honestly determine that the “problem” was merely a disconnected spark plug. The Pit Stop proved its honest service and customer care by recognizing the true trouble within a minute and easily reconnected the plug, free of charge. In the newspaper, the Union lauded The Pit Stop for “fast and efficient” service and recognized its honesty compared with other shops, some of which held the car for up to four hours and charged up to $79 for the same “problem”.
